Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with and how to get it deleted. Written to be read, not to be skipped.
Last updated
This policy is a working draft written to match how the site actually behaves. Before go-live, confirm your registered legal entity name and address, your ICO registration number, your retention periods and your data processors, and have it reviewed. Replace this box with those details.
Who we are#
KeepTheLot ("we", "us") publishes information about wills, trusts and estate planning in England & Wales, and offers introductions to regulated advisers. We are the data controller for personal data collected through this site. Contact: hello@keepthelot.co.uk.
What we collect, and why#
| Data | When | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name, email, phone, postcode, what you need help with, your message | When you submit the "talk to an expert" form | To respond, and to introduce you to one regulated adviser | Consent |
| Email address | If you tick the newsletter box | To send you occasional guides | Consent (separate, and optional) |
| Page you came from, campaign parameters, referrer | With a form submission | To understand which guides help people | Legitimate interests |
| A one-way hash of your IP address | With a form submission | To detect abuse and spam | Legitimate interests |
| Analytics data (pages viewed, approximate location) | Only if you accept analytics cookies | To improve the site | Consent |
What we do not collect#
- Anything you type into the calculator. Those figures are used to produce your result and are not stored. If you then choose to contact an adviser, we pass across only the estate total and headline figure so you do not have to repeat yourself.
- Your full IP address in our records — only a hash of it.
- Special category data. Please do not send us health details or anything similar through the form.
Who we share it with#
- One regulated adviser, matched to your enquiry, when you have consented. They become a data controller in their own right at that point and their own privacy policy applies.
- Our hosting and email providers, as processors, under contract.
- Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not pass it to lead-generation panels or marketing lists.
How long we keep it#
- Enquiries: 24 months from your last contact with us, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, plus a suppression record so we do not email you again by accident.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
- Analytics: per the retention set in Google Analytics, currently 14 months.
Your rights#
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; have it corrected; have it erased; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@keepthelot.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Cookies#
The site sets no cookies unless you accept analytics. Your choice is stored locally in your browser. See our cookie policy.
Security#
The site is served over HTTPS with a strict content security policy. Enquiry data is stored on access-controlled infrastructure, and IP addresses are hashed rather than stored in the clear. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not collect more than we need — which is the most effective protection there is.
Children#
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes#
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use existing data will be notified directly to anyone affected.
